The history of Na Daoine Maithe - the Good People in Ireland - stretches back into written folklore and mythology, with people of the Sidhe appearing in the Táin Bó Cuailnge and Echtra Condla. But the modern understanding of fairies is often vastly at odds with the traditional Irish fairy lore, and has been influenced by diverse foreign sources.
This class will focus on disambiguating traditional Fair Folk from twee and fictional fairies, taking on topics like the origins of fairy wings, tiny fairies, and why we envision fairies with pointed ears, with one of the foremost experts on Fairies' mythology in the world.
